Lloyd Jones Scholarship- Revised
Qualification
The Lloyd Jones Scholarship is now
open to anyone working in state or local government financial
management, regardless of years of experience, who have made an
outstanding contribution to their organization in the performance of
their duties during the past year.
The limitation to one to five years
of experience has been removed.
The Scholarship consists of free
registration and hotel accommodations for the Summer Conference, $200
monetary award and a one-year membership in MD GFOA.
Instructors Needed
MDGFOA is looking for a few good men and women to teach the intermediate
accounting course that MDGFOA offers annually.
Depending on the prospective instructors’ experience and knowledge, they
most likely would shadow the current instructors at least one session.
The format of the training is a live classroom setting of approximately
35 - 40 students. The current instructors split duties by topic and are
in attendance the entire class period. This format has worked well in
the past but could be revised based on the new instructors’ prerogative.
The classes are 2½ days in duration (20 CPE credits) and are scheduled
at the convenience of the instructors and the Local Government Insurance
Trust (LGIT), which hosts the classes in its training room. The text for
the instructional material is the GASB Statement 34 implementation
guide.
This is a voluntary/unpaid position. Free lunch and the satisfaction
that accompanies volunteer work are the only perks for the instructors.
If you are interested in volunteering for
this position, please send a notice of your intent, along with a
description of your teaching experience and knowledge level, to one of
the members of the Continuing Professional Education Committee
Richard Duthoy,
Marty Jacobs, or
Joe
Zimmerman.
Nota Bene: MDGFOA’s search for new instructors does not reflect at all
on the performance and generosity of the existing long-time instructors
(Keith Novak and Al Warfield). The purpose of this search is to provide
relief to the current instructors and to insure a backup position for
MDGFOA.
